Systematic Theology II: Humanity, Sin, and Salvation

The second Systematic Theology course, covering Angelology (angels and demons), Anthropology (the nature of humanity), Hamartiology (the doctrine of sin), Pneumatology (the Holy Spirit), and Soteriology (the doctrine of salvation, from election through glorification).

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the nature and ministry of angels, and the reality of Satan and demons
  • Understand the origin and nature of humanity as made in God's image
  • Understand the origin, nature, and effects of sin
  • Understand the person and work of the Holy Spirit
  • Understand God's eternal plan of salvation, including election, calling, regeneration, and conversion
  • Understand justification, sanctification, perseverance, and glorification

Syllabus

Overview

Systematic Theology II covers Angelology (angels and demons), Anthropology (the nature of humanity), Hamartiology (the doctrine of sin), Pneumatology (the Holy Spirit), and Soteriology (the full scope of salvation from election to glorification).

Reading Plan

Weeks 1-2: Angelology. Weeks 3-4: Anthropology. Weeks 5-6: Hamartiology. Weeks 7-8: Pneumatology. Weeks 9-13: Soteriology (election, calling/regeneration/conversion, justification, sanctification, perseverance/glorification).

Required Materials

A personal Bible in one of the following standard translations: ESV, NIV, NASB 1995, CSB, LSB, or NLT; a notebook or journal for reading notes and reflection.

Grading & Completion

Assessment focuses on engagement with Scripture and demonstration of comprehension. Students complete weekly reading assignments and a short weekly quiz covering that week's material. A final exam covering the entire course is available once every week has been passed.

  • Upon completion, students will be able to explain the biblical doctrine of angels, Satan, and demons
  • Upon completion, students will be able to articulate the doctrine of humanity and sin
  • Upon completion, students will be able to explain the full scope of salvation from election to glorification
